About Hajeh Maha Krayem Abdo
Maha Abdo OAM is a passionate advocate for social justice and uses the common language of faith to clarify in the community how Islam regards justice and equality. She serves as the CEO of Muslim Women Australia (MWA), a community-based organisation that caters to the educational, religious, social, recreational and welfare needs of Muslim women from all backgrounds.
Maha knows the migrant experience firsthand having moved from Lebanon to Australia with her family in the 1960s. She has completed a Bachelor of Social Work, a Masters in Social Science, and Graduate Diploma in Family Dispute Resolution.
Today Maha represents and gives voice to Muslim women abroad as well as in Australia. She advises government on policy, services and strategies to create a harmonious community for Muslim and non-Muslim women. In 2016 Maha was the NSW Seniors Week Ambassador as well as the BreastScreen NSW Ambassador. In 2015 Maha was a finalist for the Australian Human Rights Commission’s Human Rights Medal, and in 2014 she was the NSW Human Rights Ambassador for 2014-15.
About Selena Afeaki
Selena Afeaki has 21 years’ fitness industry experience which started in Asia with global industry leader company, 24 Hour Fitness Group. Selena held the Vice President of Marketing and Human Resources position for the company, where she was responsible for expansion across Asia. Selena is the wife of Lusiano Afeaki, who together have 3 children, Saia (17), Katia (15) and Eiva (11).
Selena is co-founder of New Evolution Ventures Australia (NEVA), alongside business partner and husband, Lusiano Afeaki. She created the concept of V Club 2007, an innovative and unique offering, which won Best Gym in Sydney 5 years in a row. A concept she helped evolve into Hard Candy Fitness in partnership with Founder Madonna. Selena also launched the first ever international location for UFC Gym, a massive 3,200 square meter club in Alexandria. But it is the Crunch Fitness clubs, with its unique offering and philosophy of No Judgments, Come As You Are, that is capturing the hearts of many and changing the face of fitness in Australia.
Selena has a Master’s Degree in Commerce from Victoria University in New Zealand and is the current CEO leading the growth and expansion for V Group in Australia. Leading a team of over 850 people, they serve over 70,000 members and continue their mission to help more people perspire to greatness!
